Dakota Sacred Hoop Walk
Experience the Dakota Sacred Hoop Walk, an immersive augmented reality art exhibition by Marlena Myles, a Spirit Lake Dakota artist. Located at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the walk begins in the Harrison Sculpture Garden and features five stops, each offering digital images and audio narratives that honor Dakota history, culture, and the significance of the land. Learning for Sovereign Futures: Native Education for All Institute
This free, five-day professional development institute is designed for Minnesota K–12 educators, administrators, and advocates committed to implementing Indigenous Education for All (IEFA) in their schools and districts. Hosted by the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) in partnership with the Tribal Nations Education Committee, Minnesota Department of Education’s Office of American Indian Education, and the Minnesota Humanities Center, the institute offers place-based and community-centered learning experiences. Participants will engage in field trips to sites of Indigenous significance, attend guest lectures by Indigenous experts, and participate in hands-on workshops focused on tribal sovereignty and culturally responsive teaching practices. The program emphasizes collaborative planning to develop professional learning plans that reflect the strengths and priorities of local tribal communities. Travel scholarships are available for participants traveling from outside the Twin Cities area. Stop by to explore the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post during our annual open house! The historic site is open for special Sunday hours and is free for everyone, all day!
