SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Sen. Tim
Johnson says the money in federal economic stimulus legislation for
American Indian tribes will help people in some of the most impoverished
areas of the nation.
"It goes a long way to improve our
conditions for our Native Americans in South Dakota,” Johnson said.
The Senate Appropriations Committee
has included $2.8 billion for Indian tribes in its portion of the
stimulus legislation moving through Congress. It includes hundreds of
millions of dollars for schools, health clinics, roads, law enforcement
and water projects.
