Yéigo Action Grant
The Yéigo Action Grant is a new ongoing, initiative designed to empower Native artists and culture bearers, Provides support for professional development opportunities or to help overcome challenges. Funding ranges from $100 to $5,000. Application deadline is the 10th of every month. Arikara Proper Exhibit
Arikara Proper is a solo exhibition featuring a collection of paintings from artist J. White (Arikara). A self-taught painter, White shares her culture through the lens of an urban Indian. White’s work depicts and celebrates her Northern Plains culture, while capturing and exploring obscure emotions through abstract expressionism. Through recurring representational elements of stars, quilts, buffaloes, horses and Native women, White showcases empowerment and highlights culture-driven storytelling. The Four Sisters Farmers Market is an Indigenous-focused farmers market that provides increased access to affordable, healthy, culturally appropriate local foods within the American Indian Cultural Corridor. The ancestors who walk with us sing us our song. When we get quiet enough, we can hear them sing and make them audible to people today. In Anishinaabe Songs for a New Millennium, Marcie R. Rendon, a member of the White Earth Nation, summons those ancestors’ songs, and so begins the dream singing for generations yet to come. Rendon will be at Drury Lane Books in Grand Marais, MN on Sept 7 at 6pm. And on Sept 8, she will be at the Zenith Books in Duluth at 4pm. Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi
Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi and the Daylighting of Phalen Creek project team have progressed to 60% design for the first quarter mile (Phase 1) of the daylighting project! We will be hosting a community engagement event on from 5pm-7pm on the south end of the project site (the green space closest to Elim Church). Native American Elders Day
Back by popular demand, Spirit Care Services and DIW, welcome the first annual Native American Elders Day. Last year’s Elders Picnic was a huge success. We served over 300 elders, transportation was provided, a delicious BBQ style lunch served, community resources, raffles, the traveling photo booth and bingo. Mahkato 52nd Annual Traditional Pow Wow 2024
