Corrections Policy

The Circle News is committed to accuracy. When we make an error of fact, we correct it promptly, transparently, and without qualification.

How we handle corrections

When an error is identified in a published article, the article is updated as quickly as possible. A correction notice is appended to the article, clearly noting what was changed and when. Corrections are not made silently. Readers who encounter a corrected article will see both the current, accurate version and a record of what was wrong.
For significant errors, we publish a standalone correction notice in addition to updating the original article.

What we correct

We correct factual errors: names, dates, titles, places, figures, quotes, and any other matter of verifiable fact. We do not alter or delete articles because a subject disagrees with our framing or conclusions. Opinion and editorial content is not subject to correction on grounds of disagreement, only on grounds of factual error.

What we do not do

We do not remove published articles at the request of subjects, sources, or advertisers. We do not alter the historical record to make past reporting more favorable to any party. We do not issue “unpublishments” except in extraordinary circumstances involving legal requirements or imminent harm, and any such decision requires approval from the Executive Director.

How to request a correction

If you believe we have made an error, contact us at editor@thecirclenews.org. Please include the article headline or URL, the specific error you believe was made, and any documentation that supports the correction. We will review every request and respond within five business days.

We take correction requests seriously regardless of who submits them, and we hold ourselves to the same standard we would apply to any institution we cover.
