Dennis Smith Lothert Sr.
June 23, 1946 – December 5, 2017

Dennis Smith Lothert Sr. – (Hey Man) Wambdi Isnana, meaning Lone Eagle –age 71 of Lower Sioux Community passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Dennis was born June 23, 1946 to Wilbur Larsen and Bethel (Smith) Lothert in Olivia, Minnesota. He was raised by his step dad Sylvester Lothert. Dennis attended school in Morton and graduated from Redwood Falls High School. Following high school, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. After a honorable discharge, he returned to a base in Florida where he met and married Sharon Arlene Maxwell. They had two children Dorinda Dawn Lothert and Dennis Smith Lothert Jr. He attended school for Real Estate in Florida. Dennis later started working in construction and helped work on Canterbury Downs. In the summer of 1991 he married Colleen Cavender at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church. Dennis was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed old cars and playing dice with his friends at Roosters Nest coffee shop. Dennis loved to go fishing, especially on the trips to Canada with his brother Donnie. He held the state record in South Dakota for the largest small mouth bass.

Dennis is survived by his children: Dorinda Lothert of Miami, Dennis Lothert Jr (Angela) of Redwood Falls, Laise Fox (Patrick Jordean) of Morton and Jesse (Melissa) Fox of Morton; grandchildren: Wynonah, Wastewe, Havanah, Skye, Omarion “Roscoe”, Dennis Smith Lothert III, Tamara Janine Marchetti, Terrance Porter, Shaya Porter and Mario Walden; great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Porter, Corey Porter and Samaya Walden; brothers: Jens Larsen, Chuck Larsen and Dave (Ava) Ingebritson; sister-in-law Sharon Lothert; nieces and nephews: Rhonda Lothert, Brenda Hapke, Todd Lothert, Tad Lothert, Tammy Pitzl, Terri Ann Lewandowski, Gary LaTurco, Jamie Pitts-Lemon, Eric Pitts, Scott Goblirsch, Tarin Ingebritson and all their families; special friends: Dodie Day, Glenn Good Thunder and Don Prescott, and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: Smokey, Sylvester, Bethel and Wilbur, wife Colleen, brothers: Don Lothert, Rick Pitts, Hapanna Larsen, sisters: Sandy Goblirsch and (twin) Diane Lothert Larsen, nephews: David Amaral Larsen and Donald Lothert Jr. and niece Tessa Martin.

Funeral Services were held December 9 at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church in Lower Sioux Community. Interment is in the St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.
