Aug. 10-12
2018 Grand Portage Celebration Powwow
The annual Grand Rendezvous and Powwow at Grand Portage includes reenactors from across the country and Canada as they gather to camp and challenge each other to games and skills from the past, along with the powwow. Friday: 10am is Great Hall-Rendezvous Days Powwow welcome, Bingo at 4pm, Softball at 6:30pm and Powwow warmups at 7pm. Saturday: 8am is Mixed Softball Tournament, 1pm is Grand Entry. 3:30pm is Pricess/Brave Contest (Jr and Sr), 5pm is Feast, 7pm is Grand Entry. Sunday: 8am is Mixed Softball Tournament, 1pm is Grand Entry. No pets allowed. Grand Portage Monument Heritage Center, 170 Mile Creek Rd, Grand Portage, MN. 2018 Pine Point Powwow
Three Grand Entries: Saturday at 1pm and 7pm, and Sunday at 1pm. Pine Point features “The Rez Parade,” in which the ugliest, most rusted out, banged up, pathetic looking vehicle in the parade wins the prize. Vehicles will be featured in a demolition derby Friday night prior to the powwow. Pine Point Powwow Grounds, Pow Wow Highway, Ponsford, MN. SMSC Wacipi
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Wacipi contest powwow. Grand Entries: Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 1pm and 7pm, Sunday at 1pm. Meal: Saturday 4:30-6:30pm. Fireworks: Saturday at 10pm. MCs: Juaquin Hamilton, Ruben Little Head. Honorary MC: Wallace Coffey. ADs: Chaske Lablanc, Clifton Goodwill. Head Women’s Judge: Alva Fiddler. Head Men’s Judge: Canku One Star. Drum Group Host: Northern Cree, Young Bear. Invited Drums: Black Bear, Black Otter, Blackstone, Bull Horn, Midnite Express, The Boyz, Young Spirit, Cozad, Southern Style, Yellow Hammer. Mille Lacs Band Powwow
The 52nd Annual Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Traditional Powwow. Free and open to the public. Camping, showers and firewood (off-site firewood prohibited). Grand Entry times: Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 1pm and 7pm, Sunday at 1pm. Held at the Iskigamizigan Powwow Grounds (on the west side of Lake Mille Lacs), Onamia, MN. Mendota’s Traditional Wacipi Powwow
Traditional powwow. $20 to each adult dancer for each grand entry they participate in. Friday: Lighting Sacred Fire followed by potluck dinner and musical performances by Red Ponie Band, Larry Long and Jada Brown, it all starts at 5pm. Saturday: Grand entries at 1pm and 7pm, Aztec Dancers at 5:45pm. Sunday: Grand entry at 1pm, Feast at 5:30pm. Admission: $5 entry button donation, no one turned away.
