partnership provides a unique opportunity to expand the way we bring

attention to and tell the story about the cancer experience Indian

country,” said Kris Rhodes, executive director of American Indian Cancer

Foundation.

The American Indian Cancer Foundation is a non-profit

organization located in Minneapolis, MN. Powwow For Hope is the largest

community event and fundraiser of the American Indian Cancer Foundation.

In 2012, there were over 2,000 participants. All donations from this

event support cancer education and services for American Indian and

Hennepin Community College holds its annual Earth Week from April

20-27, with events and speakers that will educate the campus and wider

community about Building Sustainable Communities.

Allison Warden, Kevin Winge, Asad Aliweyd, Ladonna Redmond, Song Lo, the

Roe Family Singers, Dennis Banks and Hoka Hey Drum Group.

Juanita Espinosa selected for Media Skills Fellows program at Twin Cities Media Alliance

the TCDailyPlanet) ­– Ten people, diverse in race, gender, age,

ethnicity, geography and life experience have been selected for a

ten-week media skills fellowship program. The Twin Cities Media Alliance

chose the participants from 75 people who indicated interest in the

program, which is funded by the Bush Foundation.

Juanita Espinosa

was selected as one of the ten media skills fellows. Espinosa said the

fellowship will help her in “crossing the digital divide in a time of

ever evolving uses of the written word and technology while telling the

stories that need to be heard.”

Participants will learn and share a

variety of media skills, including basic reporting, use of social media

and basic photo and video skills. Their work will be based in and used

for better communication in/about/on behalf of their diverse

communities.  

The group of Media Skills Fellows will work as a small

community that models and practices good storytelling and communication

skills, with fellows contributing their insights and skills. TC Daily

Planet editor Mary Turck and community engagement editor Lolla Mohammed

Nur will facilitate the sessions, sharing resources and information and

teaching specific media skills.

A second group of media skills
